Our Pastor

Reverend Scott C. Dorsey

I have served as Pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Holmesburg, since October 2004.  Under my leadership and vision, we have transitioned from focusing on increasing our membership to increasing our discipleship.   The areas on which I have placed emphasis are discipleship, evangelism, missions and Bible study.  I am an advocate for education and children.  My love and passion has been teaching children and ensuring church school is effective.  If we can plant the seed of God in a child early and guide them through the storms of life, I believe they will become disciples of Jesus Christ who will make a positive impact on this world.  We continue to build on ministries and create ways in which we can advocate for our community in seeking social justice, equality, and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1986 from Kutztown University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Cabrini College.  I suspect these degrees came as somewhat of a surprise to my high school guidance counselor who informed me that I was not college material.

I was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Philadelphia at the age of fifteen and was ordained as Deacon at Zion hill at the age of twenty.  While serving at Zion Hill I served in several capacities: Church Treasurer; Spiritual Leader to the youth and Vice Chairman of the Deacon Board.

In 1998 I was licensed as a minister and relocated my discipleship to the Second Baptist Church, Wayne, PA under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Raymond Thomas.  In 2000 I was ordained at Second Baptist.  I was called as the Pastor of Transfiguration Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA in 2001 and served in this capacity until 2004.

In 1987 I was joined in holy matrimony to Debbie Myrick.  This union has been blessed with two children: Raven and Martin Dorsey.  In the spring of 2016 Raven graduated from Stony Brook. She is currently at the University of Penn working on her Masters in Social Work. Martin will complete his junior year at the College of the Holy Cross. He is the starting Wide Receiver for the Crusaders.  Debbie and I have resided in Tredyffrin Township for over twenty six years.

In addition to pastoring Mount Zion, I was the Program Coordinator and Manager for the recruitment department of Children’s Choice – a non-profit foster care and adoption agency.  I am also the elected School Director for the Tredyffrin – Easttown School Board. I currently serve as the Vice President of the School Board.

Debbie and I have devoted our lives to God and our family.  We continue to press on and follow the will of God.  We don’t know where our journey will take us or how long it will be, but we look forward to shining God’s love on all of God’s people as long as the Lord will allow us.  To God be the Glory. Love, Peace and Joy.
