Rev. Darren Umble, Interim Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Holmesburg
Reverend Darren Umble began serving as the Interim Pastor at The Mount Zion Baptist Church of Holmesburg on the first Sunday of September 2018. He was both licensed and ordained by Mount Zion where he served as an associate minister for six years under the leadership of the former Pastor Rev. Scott C. Dorsey. Prior to his calling to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he also served as a deacon at Mount Zion for 19 years.
Rev. Umble’s dedication to God’s Word and caring for the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40) inspired him to lead Mount Zion’s Evangelism Ministry in a multitude of endeavors including prayer walks, assisting the neighborhood food pantry, evangelizing throughout the community and working to equip the church family for outreach. As the head of the Board of Christian Education, Rev. Umble has used many avenues to assist the Church in growing spiritually. On Monday evenings, you can find him preaching, teaching, and encouraging the brothers at The Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF) on State Road under the umbrella of HOPE Ministries. Rev. Umble currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Baptist Association (PBA).
Vocationally, Rev. Umble served as an Art Instructor for the School District of Philadelphia for almost 14 years and most recently served at Divine Providence Village Day Program as The Director of Employment Services for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Rev. Umble is very thankful to his wife and soul mate, Joyce for walking along side him in ministry and his family for encouraging and supporting him. He is step-father to five adult children and “Pop-Pop” to five grandchildren. One of his favorite life verses is Philippians 3:13b-14, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
